The Readymade Drawing #1

The Readymade Drawing #1. Charcoal drawing, projection of a colour image, long time fade in and out. “Beamer” (Dutch colloquial), Tripod.

In the art world, there is a drawing/painting technique that has been used often; By tracing a photograph through a projector.

This is a common knowledge amongst artists, but less so for the public. The idea is to quickly produce a convincing figurative image, which embodies the quality of a prestine handmade work. It is a smogscreen to give the impression to the audience that this kind of work is not possible for them te make. And therefor reaffirm the idea in the mind of the viewer that it must be art.

Not knowing how the drawing or painting is made, the myth of the artist’s hand is kept on the collective mind of what makes a work art. It is a psychological reward for the unknowing public eyes.

By deconstructing the process of tracing, and giving it the centre stage; A charcoal drawing with a projected color image on top, slowly fading in and out. Time rewards the viewer to discover the origin of both images.
